What is PayU's Gift card offering?

PayU enables its merchants to create an online gift card store for their customers. The store comes with a payment gateway integration and custom design templates. Customers can buy gift cards from the merchants' gift card store for self or their family, friends and employees.

Are the gift cards issued by PayU?

PayU is a technology service provider and we only issue gift cards on behalf of our merchants for their customers.

What is the eligibility criteria for selling Gift cards?

The eligibility criteria for a business to open a gift card store with PayU is KYC documentation and bank account verification.

Are these gift cards branded as PayU Gift cards?

No, these gift cards will be merchant offered gift cards powered by PayU technology.

Are these gift cards physical or digital?

The gift cards are digital only. On purchasing a gift card, the customer is delivered a Gift Card electronically

How do I sign up to start a gift card store for my customers?

You can start a gift card store for your customer in 3 easy steps:

  1. Click on sign up for Gift cards here
  2. Provided Registration details including Brand name, Email and Mobile number for admin
  3. Setup your gift card page and program structure.

If you are new to PayU, you will need to complete your KYC documentation and verify your bank account details so that you start receiving settlements of your sales.

What are the details required for setting up gift card store?

You require the following details for setting up your gift card store:

  1. Brand Name – Mandatory
  2. Contact Details – Mandatory
  3. Brand Logo – Optional but Recommended
  4. Select your preferred background gift card template or upload your own design
  5. Select gift card value from the available amount or enter a custom amount
  6. Accept terms and Conditions

Once you set up your gift card store with above details, you will receive your store URL that can be shared with your customers

I am unable to setup new account using my Email and/or mobile number.

Please check if you have an existing account with PayU. If you do, please login using your existing credentials. If you have forgotten the password, please use forgot password option.

I am facing error in set up process

What details do I get after completing setup?

You will receive a unique webpage for your customers to purchase gift cards. This will be pre-configured with PayU Payment Gateway.

Is Payment gateway a part of the gift card store?

Yes, we will have payment gateway integrated with payment options such as credit card, debit card, UPI, wallets and more.

What are the charges for setting up gift card platform?

We will not charge anything for setting up the gift card store. You will be charged only when a gift card is purchased by your customers.

What are the charges for issuance of the gift card?

We have a special introductory price where setup for platform is free and per issuance of gift card will be charged at 1% of total value of the gift card. GST will be as applicable in addition to this. You will be charged with payment gateway fee over and above issuance charges which are provided here.

When do I get money for the gift card issued for my customer?

Once you have provided KYC and bank details, post validation, you will receive money for the gift cards issued within seven days of issuance.

Can I issue bulk gift cards?

You currently cannot issue bulk gift cards online but please contact us with your requirement and we can provide help for the same.

How do I check details about gift cards issued by us?

You can login into your PayU dashboard, click on gift card section to see details about your gift cards. You will also see all your transactions on the dashboard.

What do I do if customer is unable to purchase using the webpage or webpage is not working?

Please reach out to us at help.payu.in. Raise a request and we will try to resolve your query at the earliest.

How do I redeem gift card presented by customer at point of sale?

You currently have two ways to redeem the gift card – Using Web or PayU Mobile app on android

  1. Login to your PayU dashboard using dashboard link or mobile app with your credentials
  2. Click on Gift card section
  3. You will see an option to redeem gift card
  4. Enter gift card number or mobile number of the custome
  5. Select the card (If more than one)
  6. Check balance of the card and enter the amount customer wants to redeem
  7. Provide your internal reference number or invoice number
  8. Click on redeem
  9. Customer will provide an OTP to be entered on screen
  10. On successful validation, redemption will be completed and new balance will appear on card

You can collect balance payment (if any) using any of the payment modes you offer and/or customer prefers

How do I allow redemptions using gift card on my website and/or mobile app?

We currently do not support gift card redemption on online channels. We will soon offer the same using our Payment gateway integration either using our payment page or using APIs that can be integrated by you.

Would I be able to use payment gateway services of PayU if I have on boarded using gift card option?

Yes, you can use our payment gateway services and other features we offer.

What if my customer does not receive an OTP to authenticate?

Please check if there is sufficient network coverage and verify if mobile number being used is same as registered mobile number for gift card. If customer doesn’t receive the OTP despite adequate coverage, please wait for some time and then re-try. This usually happens due to fluctuation at telecom service provider.

Can my customer pay partially through gift card and rest through other payment mode?

Our system will facilitate redemption of gift cards for customer. Over and above that, you are free to use any other mode of payment for remaining value of the transaction.

Can I run discount offers for gift card purchase?

You currently cannot run any discounts for gift card issuance but can provide offers and discounts to your customer at point of sale/redemption using your existing systems and processes.

How do I purchase a Gift card?

You can purchase gift cards of required value from the Gift Card (GC) page of the merchant Steps to purchase a gift card - on the gift card page:

  1. Please select a relevant Gift card image
  2. Next, please select or enter the Gift Card's value
  3. Choose the recipient as yourself or someone else
  4. Enter the details including the email and mobile of the gift card recipient Read and accept the terms and conditions
  5. Click on Buy Gift card
  6. You will see payment option to complete the transaction
  7. Please provide your mobile number
  8. Select your preferred mode of payment
  9. Please provide all relevant payment details and complete the transaction

Upon successful completion of the transaction, a confirmation of your purchase will be displayed on your screen. The gift card will be delivered to the recipient via email and SMS

How will I receive my gift card?

You will receive your gift cards via email and SMS.

Can I purchase using international mobile number?

No, we currently support only Indian mobile numbers for recipient.

What is the validity of the gift card?

The gift card will be valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

How many gift cards can I purchase at a time?

Currently, you can purchase only one gift card at a time.

Can I buy gift card for myself?

Yes, you can buy gift card for yourself.

Will I receive a physical gift card?

No. You will receive a digital gift card. We currently do not issue physical cards.

What happens if my gift card expires?

The validity of a gift card is 12 months from the date of purchase. If you do not use it before the expiry, the gift card will be null and void.

How do I check the balance of the gift card?

On purchasing the gift card, you will receive a message stating the balance on the card. After each redemption, you will receive an updated message containing the balance. If you are unable to locate the message, you can contact your merchant to provide you with the balance on the card by providing required card details.

Where can I redeem my gift card?

You can redeem your gift card with the merchant who issued the gift card. You can walk into the merchant’s establishment or contact them for alternatives for the redemption.

How do I redeem my gift card balance?

In order to redeem your gift card balance, you can walk into the merchant location or contact your merchant. They will assist you with redemption of the gift card at the time of sale of product or service. You will need to share the OTP received on your mobile phone number to authenticate the transaction.

What if I don't receive OTP for redemption.

Please ensure that the mobile number being used is same as registered mobile number at the time of purchase of gift card. If you still do not receive the OTP, check for any cellular network issue or try after some time.

What if my mobile number is changed after buying gift card. How do I redeem?

OTP will be sent only to the mobile number registered at the time of the purchase. This number cannot be changed for security reasons.

What if I lose my card number or SMS, how do I redeem?

You can redeem the gift card using both your card number or mobile number. Please provide your registered mobile number to the merchant and you will be able to redeem the gift card after validating the OTP sent on it.

How many times can I use my gift card?

You can use your gift card as many times as you prefer until your card’s balance is exhausted or your card expires.

Can I use gift card for higher value of transaction than my balance?

You can combine your gift card balance with other modes of payment accepted by the merchant. Please note this will be at the discretion of the merchant whether he accepts other modes of payment.

Can I load more money into my gift card?

No, currently, you cannot load more money into your gift card.

Can I get refund or balance back on my gift card if I return the item back to merchant?

No, gift card does not allow refunds or cancellation of transaction. However, you can check with the merchant if they have any other means available for refunds or credit note for the given purchase.

What if my gift is unacceptable by merchant at the time of purchase?

Please check if your gift card is expired or balance is exhausted. Merchant must accept the gift card if you have balance and is within expiry. In case merchant is facing technical challenge, please try using again when merchant is able to redeem.

Can I use my gift card for purchase on online store of merchant?

Please check this with your merchant if they have an option to redeem the gift cards online or any other ways to redeem it.

What if merchant does not have internet to redeem gift card or has a power outage, can I still redeem gift card?

No, we do not support offline redemption at this time. You will have to discuss with the merchant about other possible ways to redeem the gift or wait till the power/internet is back.

Do I get any additional discount for using Gift card at merchant location?

We do not provide any additional discount for using gift card. If merchant wants to provide any additional discounts or offers, the same will be at merchant's discretion at the time of redemption.

I have lost my voucher and I would like to block the same

You can block your gift card by raising a request using help section on our website. Rest assured, no one can use your gift card balance without OTP authentication through your registered mobile number.
